Meet the Team
Barbara A. Bowden: Attorney and Owner
Barbara Ann Bowden was born and raised in Western Washington. She completed her undergraduate studies at Washington State University, where she graduated in 1982. Barbara continued her education and graduated from the University of Puget Sound Law School in 1985, and became a licensed attorney in the State of Washington in 1986. She has extensive experience in defending people’s traffic rights, including DUIs, traffic tickets, and more. Read more about Barbara.
Allen McKenzie: Attorney
Allen McKenzie graduated from the University of Washington, where he anchored the Husky lacrosse team and was scholarship chairman for Sigma Chi fraternity. He studied under world-renowned legal scholars, including President Obama, at the top-five University of Chicago Law School, earning his J.D. in 2006. Read more about Allen.
Martha McLaughlin: Attorney
Martha McLaughlin earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Puget Sound in 1984. Despite working full-time as a Microbiologist with Multicare Health Systems and raising two boys while her Air Force officer husband was frequently deployed, Martha managed to graduate from Seattle University School of Law with honors in 2007. Ross Brittain: Attorney
From an early age, Ross was drawn to the idea of helping those who would not otherwise have the voice to assist themselves. He received his BA from Western Washington University and then graduated from the Gonzaga University School of Law. He has been recognized for his excellent work over the years, having received the Consumer Law Clinic Achievement Award and two awards of distinction during his two years of service at the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Lyuda Orlov: Traffic Infractions Paralegal
Lyuda is in charge of all the administrative duties for our Traffic Tickets. She has worked with Barbara since she graduated from high school in 1999 and is a certified Paralegal. Lyuda has seen and helped handle just about every traffic ticket you can imagine in her 14 years with Barbara and is an invaluable member of her team. She speaks fluent Russian and Ukranian, and can speak and understand several other languages. She is an amazingly positive woman and is very actively involved with her church. She travels with members of her church on mission trips every year and has worked to help poor families, orphaned children, and disabled seniors literally all over the world. She is the heart of our team and she can help you with any traffic ticket problems you have.
Patty Maerkl: Criminal Paralegal + DOL Specialist
Patty Maerkl grew up in the Tacoma area, raising three children, and attending training as a paralegal at Tacoma Community College. She served as the local Amvets Ladies Auxiliary President for 5 separate years, and as the state Amvet Ladies Auxiliary President for 2 years. She has been with The Law Offices of Barbara A. Bowden for 8 years and serves as a key member of our legal team. As a Criminal Defense Paralegal and our Department of Licensing Specialist, she is here to help resolve any issues that may arise in working with the DOL. When she is not at the office, she enjoys spending time at home with her family and her dog, Holly.
Lisa Newkirk: Criminal Paralegal + Evaluation Specialist
Lisa Newkirk was born and raised in Puyallup, WA and graduated from Puyallup High School in 2004. Lisa is outgoing and has a passion for people, and since March of 2014 she has been an integral part of our team as one of our criminal paralegals, specializing in the evaluation and treatment aspects of our clients’ cases. She has 2 young children and in her spare time enjoys camping with her family. She is an avid Seahawks fan and has a love for all things football!
Sable Nguyen: Traffic Infraction Paralegal
Sable Nguyen takes care of the administrative duties related to traffic infraction cases in our office. She recently moved to Washington from Ohio, and has a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Morehead State University and a Master of Education degree from The Ohio State University. Before joining our team in 2016, she worked as a secondary science teacher for three years. She also has experience working in a research laboratory setting and traveling as a region consultant for Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Sable is a spirited Ohio State Buckeyes fan and a dedicated military spouse. When she is not serving clients in the office, she enjoys hiking and exploring the beautiful scenery of Washington with her dog, Paris, and husband, Joey.
Rose Andersen: Criminal Paralegal
Rose Andersen is a Tacoman through and through. She was born and raised in Tacoma Washington. After graduating from Franklin Pierce high school, she began studying Spanish at La Única spanish instruction school in Tacoma. Spanish in particular really struck her as a useful skill to learn in order to serve her clients’ needs better. She is dedicated to ensuring everyone she helps receives the highest level of service and customer care. Rose has worked in criminal defense for over 5 years. The skills she gained at La Única continue to serve her in her current position as a criminal paralegal. She enjoys traveling to Spanish speaking countries for the beauty and to continue her education. In her free time, you can find her working on her house, gardening and spending time with her sweet Chihuahua.
Alexandra Gaylord: Billing Specialist and Legal Assistant
Alexandra Gaylord was born and raised in Western Washington, and has always considered it home. She studied Political Science at the University of Washington in Seattle, graduating in 2012. She then set off on a journey that would lead her half-way around the world and back. She worked with FEMA in New York City in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, and as an English teacher in Thailand. Here at the Law Offices of Barbara Bowden, she serves as both a billing specialist and legal assistant for the firm. Outside of the office, she spends time with her friends and family, writing, taking photos, and enjoying all of the beauty that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
